Then Shem and Japheth took their garments, laid them on their shoulders, and covered their father’s nakedness with their backs. Genesis 9:23.
God demands a wise and disciplined life from us. God commanded, ‘Honour your father and your mother, that you may abide forever in the land I am giving you, Exodus 20:12. This means that your blessings depend on respecting your parents. Worldly people rarely respect parents properly. They treat them rudely and they support their behaviour shamelessly. Like, they always criticize their parents to justify their behaviour. But God has clearly told us to respect our parents. He did not say to respect our parents in certain circumstances, or according to their nature, so we should respect our parents no matter what. Proverbs; 20: 1 says, “Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler and whoever it led lay them on their shoulders by its not wise.” Hub: 2:15; Says, “Alas for you who make your neighbour drink, pouring out your wrath, until they are drunk, in order to gaze on their nakedness.” So, according to the word of God, Noah’s behaviour was not right. But we can’t say the right behaviour of Ham. He saw his father’s nakedness and told his two brothers about it. His behaviour was a disgrace to his father. The consequences here, Shem and Japheth, behaved wisely. Noah rewarded them immediately. When Noah woke up and come to know how Shem and Japheth had treated him and how Ham had treated him. He cursed Ham and his descendants. And he blessed the offspring of Shem and Japheth. the consequences of such behaviours which are still visible in society today. We should note here that a wise and disciplined life earns blessings, and a careless life earns curses.
PRAYER: O Lord, I thank You for giving me Your Holy Spirit to enable me to live a life of wisdom and discipline. Yet in the name of Jesus, give me the grace to hear the Holy Spirit and to live according to your word. Help me respect my parents. Amen.
