DO NOT COMPROMISE
I will make the swear by the Lord the God of heaven and the God of the earth that thy shalt does not take a wife unto my son of the daughters of the Canaanites among whom I dwell, Genesis 24: 3.
Introduction:
Abraham had tired now, so he called his servant and told him not to take a bride for his son from the Canaanite girls, but to bring a bride for his son from his country and his relatives. Why did Abraham insist on this? Many Christians in our country today marry only people of their caste. When they asked why you don’t just have a Christian relationship. They give the example of Abraham that he saw his daughter-in-law for Issac from his relatives.
In fact, it is important to understand why Abraham did this. The Canaanites lived in the land of milk and honey. They were rich from a worldly point of view, with some historians saying that the Canaanites Invented the alphabet first. These people lived in the city. So their standard of living was relatively good, but the main reason Abraham did not want a daughter-in-law from them for they did not know Jehovah. they were pagans, offering human sacrifices to their gods. There were no rules about sexuality. He rejected their daughters because they had these evil practices in them. Abraham’s relatives were not as prosperous as the Canaanites, but they knew Jehovah, they feared him. Abraham did not seek prosperity or worldly relation. But considered it important to follow God’s holiness. Let us find out why should we not compromise with marriages.
For precious call: Abraham knew his call. He knew fully that he had taken over the work given by God, so he rejected the surrounding prosperity. As Christians, we are part of the same calling. The Scriptures say, “Holy brethren, partaker of the heavenly calling. Pay attention to the apostle and high priest, the Lord Jesus, ” Hebrews 3: 1. God has already chosen us for this calling, so he has justified us and glorified us. Romans 8: 30. 2 Timothy 1: 9. Jesus Christ gives to us by this calling, the knowledge and power of God. 1 Corinthians 1:24 If God has been so gracious to us, it would be very reasonable for us to have the same priority as Abraham. Saint Paul says, “In Christ Jesus, the calling of God is above all to me. I run to the limit to win; that is my work”. Philippians 3; 14.
The zeal and dedication with which Paul responded to his call In the same way, we need to respond to our heavenly calling. Because we are as important to God as Saint Paul. If we bring our sons and daughters together with unbelieving worldly boys and girls, how can they do justice to their heavenly calling? If their spiritual life destroyed it, then who is responsible for it?
God’s calling is personal and social responsibility. God has chosen us to bear witness as an individual, at local and global levels. Throughout our lives, we want to keep our personal life sacred, but also the lives of the local and global church. The sociologist surveys some people in society to evaluate it and draws their conclusions from it. This proves that each person represents the representative nature of society. Our testimony is the testimony of the churches and the testimony of the world churches is the testimony of the Christian community and the testimony of God. Scripture teaches us, “You are the chosen race, the royal priests, the holy nation, God’s own people, so that you may proclaim the merits of the one who called you out of darkness into the light.” 1 Peter 2: 9 Notice the value and responsibility of the Christian life. If you want to do justice to this personal and social responsibility,
Look at what the Scriptures tell us, “Do not yoke together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? No harmony is there between Christ and Belial. What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? Therefore, come out from them and separate, says the Lord touch no unclean things, and I will receive you. I will be a father to you and you will be my sons and daughters. Says the Lord Almighty. Since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit. Perfecting holiness out of reverence for God” 2 Corinthians 6: 14-18, 7; 1
When dealing with a matter of marriage as Christians, we should have a relationship with those who follow God’s holiness. Many Christians marry off their children just because of their caste and economic status, and such children have to suffer the consequences. It is as if we have handed them over to uncleanness.
Importance of the fellowship: The Christian life is a life of fellowship. Without fellowship, it cannot survive. We know this because it is not just a label, but it is a life. God created churches to sustain this life. By learning in the church, we become ready for God’s work and become part of a blessed life. For this, we need encouragement, guidance, prayer, and help. All this God has placed in the church. God’s Word tells to the pastors, “Proclaim the word, be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long-suffering, and doctrine. 2 Timothy 4: 2.” let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works. Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another and so much the more than ye see the day approaching “Hebrews 10: 24-25.
The world and its greed are outside the churches. When we arrange the marriage of our children with unbelieving children, they become one with the world. Today, we see so many boys and girls that such marriages have alienated them from fellowship. They hunger to go to church someday. The big question is how should we handle this.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, help me to know that I am a new creation in the world. And let me always make the right decision in my life. I ask in the name of Jesus. Amen.
