“Abraham’s calling teaches us many lessons.”

calling of Abraham.
Abraham

God’s calling to Abraham: The Lord had said to Abraham, ‘Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. ‘I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. ‘ I will bless those who will bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse, and peoples on earth will be blessed through you.’ Genesis 12: 1-3.

Calling of all believers: God has called every Christian who believes in Jesus Christ and promised, like Abraham, he promised! The Bible Says, “He has saved us and called us to a holy life, not because of anything we have done but because of his purpose and grace. This grace was given to us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time” 2 Timothy 1:9.

God can call anyone from anywhere. From this, we must understand that our social, political, and economic status does not matter today. No matter who you are, no matter how uneducated, poor, or weak, if you believe in Jesus Christ, there is no reason to doubt that your future is bright. Even if you do not see a bright future today, it is best to follow Abraham’s example and move forward in response to God’s guidance. God’s Word has proved true in the test of time, Psalm 18:30. Heaven and earth will pass away, but the word of God will endure forever. Matthew 24:35

Abram’s call tells us a lot. Abel, Seth, Enosh, Enoch, and Noah were all walking with God in the past. But Abram was a stranger to God. According to the biblical account, Abraham’s native place was Ur in Mesopotamia. Most scholars agree that this city was the centre of polytheistic belief. It shows that God calls anyone on this earth. Because He is a real God and a creator, he has authority over all creation to accomplish his plan. As he called Abraham from an idol worship background, he can call anyone from anywhere. Saint Paul says, “I was advancing in Judaism beyond many of my age among my people and was extremely zealous for the traditions of my fathers. But when God, who set me apart from my mother’s womb and called me by his grace, was pleased to reveal his Son in me so that I might preach him among the Gentiles, my immediate response was not to consult any human being Gal 1:14-16. God told Jeremiah, “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you; before you were born, I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” Jeremiah 1: 5.

To follow the Call of God is possible only by his grace: God also chose Abram in this way. God took his family out of the Ur of the Chaldeans according to his plan, Genesis 11: 27-32. Then, He separated him from his family. It was not easy for Abram to follow God’s calling, but when God calls us according to his plan, he graciously empowers us to follow him. In those days, a person’s life depended on community. It was difficult for a person to leave his society and survive then. But by God’s grace, Abram responded positively to God’s call, experiencing God’s help, strength, and blessing at every step, and he became a father of faith. We, too, need to respond positively to God’s call, regardless of adversity. God is faithful.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, you have chosen me and revealed your plan to me. So I thank you, but please grant me the patience to follow you in Jesus’ name. Amen.
