Then Abraham prayed to God, and God healed Abimelek, his wife and his female slaves so they could have children again, for the LORD had kept all the women in Abimelek’s household from conceiving because of Abraham’s wife, Sarah, Genissi 20:17-18
God tells Abimelech in a dream, I am warning you not to sin against me. But before this warning, Abimelech made a big mistake, and God punished him. God had closed Abimelech’s wife’s and his female slaves’ wombs. This meant that God severely punished Abimelech for taking Sarah home as his wife. So, what sin was God talking about now? To understand this, we need to understand the following verse: If you see any brother or sister commit a sin that does not lead to death, you should pray, and God will give them life. I refer to those whose sin does not lead to death. There is a sin that leads to death. I am not saying that you should pray about that. All wrongdoing is sin, and there is sin that does not lead to death. ” 1 John 5: 16-17 At this point, we are not thinking about the last judgment. We need to understand from this verse that God has divided sin and punishment. God punished Abimelech, his wife, and his male and female slaves for his mistake, which is also a sin, but not that big, which can bring death in his life. But the next sin that Abimelech was about to commit could lead him to death.
God wanted to save Abimelech from the sin that could bring death to his life. So, He told Abimelech, “I know you did this because you didn’t know about Sarah. This mistake punished you, but if you marry her, it will bring danger to you and your family. So, return her safely to her husband and ask him to pray for you so I can take away your pain.” Abimelech humbled himself, delivered Sarah to Abraham, and Abraham prayed. God healed Abimelech, his wife, and his handmaid; they had children (Genesis 20:17).
What would have happened if God had not told Abimelech these things? Many people today suffer the consequences of their small mistakes. God guides them through dreams, His Word, or His servants. When humble people surrender to Him like Abimelech, God heals them through the prayers of His servants.
People suffer because of mistakes they make against God’s law. These small mistakes can lead to big mistakes and dangerous punishments. So, people should stop making mistakes and turn to God. They should humble themselves and obey God to bring healing to their lives.
We never escape the consequences of mistakes because all mistakes are sins. God forgives some mistakes by punishing them, but some mistakes bring terrible consequences. God wants to keep men from such kinds of sin, so he always warns them like he warned Cain. Genesis 4: 6-7, “Then the LORD said to Cain, “Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.” But Cain never paid attention to the warning of God and had terrible punishment. He made a big mistake by killing his brother. So God punished him harshly and permanently uprooted him from the path of blessing.
PRAYER: Lord Jesus, keep us from our mistakes. Please help us walk on your holy path so that we may always live blessed lives. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
