AGONY OF BAD FELLOWSHIP,
Lot’s two
daughters became pregnant from their father.
Genesis 19:36.
Introduction : What Lot’s two daughters did when they were pregnant with their father was very disgusting, because the Scriptures say, “None of you should go to a close relative to expose the nakedness. I am the Lord.” Leviticus 18: 6-29. This is the worst end of Lot’s life, even though he had walked on the path of blessing. He lost everything that he chased for, and eventually, the stain of ugliness fell on him. Let us see why Lot, who accompanied Abraham, could not walk on the path of blessing until the end of his life.
Selfish Lifestyle: Lot followed Abraham’s path of blessing, but he did not gain the proper vision and faith to walk on that path. People who are selfish cannot get the right spiritual vision and faith. Their greed traps them. There is a good example of Ananias and Sapphira to understand the consequences of a selfish life. The Scriptures say Ananias and Sapphira were part of the congregation. That the community of believers was one-minded, one-soul, and no one claimed to have any of their own property, but all their belongings were share Many sold their real estate and put all the money at the apostles’ feet. Acts 4: 32-37. Ananias and Sapphira also sold their land for mission but kept some money for themselves. It is their doing that exposes the selfishness of their heart. They may have thought that selling the land would increase their value in the congregation, they will meet their needs, and save money. When they had put some money at the feet of the apostles, Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some money you received for the land? Did not it belong to you before it sold? And after it sold, wasn’t the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied just to human beings, but to God. When Ananias heard this, he fell down and died and the same way his wife also died. Acts 5: 1-11. Selfishness became a snare to the spiritual life of Ananias and Sapphira.
In Lot’s case, we have room for the same conclusion. It depended his blessing on to living faithfully with Abraham. Because God promised Abraham, “I will bless those who bless you.” Genesis 12: 3. But Lot, who was with Abraham, could not have a peaceful relationship with him. The word of God says that when the shepherds of Abraham and the shepherds of Lot had a quarrel, Abraham said to him, “There should be no quarrel between me and you and between your shepherds and my shepherds, because we are brothers.” Are not all nations before you? Let’s part company; If you go to the right, I will go to the left, or if you go to the left, I will go to the right. Genesis 13: 8-9. This stand of Abraham is clear that their fellowship was going through big antagonism.
Next; We see that while Abraham and Lot were dividing the land for their livestock; he chose fertile land for himself. The abundance of water and fertile land made it suitable for his livestock. He chose this region out of selfish interest, Genesis 13: 8-13. As a result, he not only turned away from Abraham, but also from his blessings.
These incidents of bible stories teach us that our blessings are to live in harmony in the church. For whatever reason, you should not move away from the church, i.e. the world church. Doing so draws us away from the congregations and our blessings. So do not be self-centred. If anyone wants to move from one local congregation to another, go with a forgiving heart, love, blessing each other and with the burden of prayer. That will keep the peace of the church and the unity of the brothers will not hinder, and you will walk in the way of blessing and glorifying God.
Improper companionship: Do not mislead, Evil company corrupts the excellent character. 1 Corinthians 15:33. Really; Every word of God is a wonderful guide for us. Lot lived among the wicked people in Sodom and Gomorrah. These people were not God fearing and behaved arbitrarily. It accustomed them to adultery, homosexuality, and unnatural sexual behaviour. Because of the company of evil people, his daughters did not even know that there were some social norms regarding sexual relations. So Lot’s daughters adopted the same immoral way as indigenous people. Both girls have lied with their father older daughter said to the younger, let’s get our father to drink wine and then lie with him and preserve our family line through our father. This way both daughters became pregnant by their father Lot. The older daughter had a son, and she named him Moab he is the father of the Moabites of today. The younger daughter also had a son, and she named him Ben-Ammi. He is the father of the Ammonites today. Genesis 19:30 -38. Both nations have always been hostile to God’s people,
Deuteronomy 23: 3-4, Judges 11:13, 1 Samuel 11: 2, Lot had blessed fellowship
with Abraham, but he left him and went out in the company of bad people, that’s
why he ended up in this bad situation.
Life of Compromise: Lot was not at all wicked, but he continued to compromise his spiritual life. The Scriptures say, “Lot was a righteous man, tormented by the lustful behaviour of the ungodly.” 2 Peter 2: 7-8. This means that Lot not only saddened by the wickedness of Sodom and Gomorrah, but he must have experienced it. His family was large, and he had servants in his hands, so someone must have fallen victim to the behaviour of these bad people. However, he was so enamoured with the prosperity of the place that he endured it and stayed there, compromising his spiritual life. In fact, he wanted to leave immediately.
The world today is a victim of wicked people and sexual immorality. Recognition of same-sex relationships [homosexuality], living together without marriage, pornography, many things that we may not know, but the world is getting used to it today. And now we have to live with the same people in this world. Lot’s story teaches us that God’s people should be vigilant. We have to take care of ourselves and future generations while illuminating this world that is heading towards destruction. God’s Word says, do not yoke together with unbelievers, for what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of a living God. As
God has said: “I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people.” therefore, “come out from them and be separate, says the Lord, touch no unclean thing and I will receive you.” 2 Corinthians 6: 14-17 Do not compromise your spiritual life by walking the path of blessing. Scripture says, “Blessed is the man that who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, or stand not in the way of sinners, nor sit in the way of the mockers. But he is content with the law of Jehovah and meditates on his law day and night.” Psalm 1: 1-2.
PRAYER: I thank you, Lord, for my salvation. Help me keep my life away from bad associations for that I can walk on the path of a blessing forever, For I Ask this prayer. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
